We reopen our doors on September 16!
PROSA had long been waiting to reopen its doors: we are all so happy to see you again.
In the image, we have astronaut Dr. Dave Bowman at the moment that marked an entire generation of cinephiles: he disconnects HAL 9000, the artificial intelligence that controls the spacecraft on its journey to Saturn’s rings. HAL, of course, did not want to be disconnected. It reminds us of ourselves in our digital interactions: how difficult it sometimes feels to switch off and return to social interaction, to vibrant culture, to being present in community.
We want to share our news for this new season (running until Christmas) and to once again be that “third place” in your lives: between home and work, we are all so often summoned by our productive loyalties to discard these kinds of experiences from our lives.
HAL 9000 inspires the theme of our first cinema cycle of the season: THE FUTURE OF KUBRICK — the intersection of our interaction with artificial intelligence and Stanley Kubrick’s vision of the future, in two moments: the 1960s, with the realization of the project/film 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968), created with Arthur C. Clarke, one of the most beautiful science fiction films in cinema history; and, in that same decade, the beginnings of the project that would become his swan song: A.I. Artificial Intelligence (2001), directed two years after his death by his friend Steven Spielberg.
We will also have new projects for babies, toddlers, and children; a new edition of our long-standing, almost therapeutic creative writing workshop; and holistic activities for our essential empowerment.
We also leave here, in this month that we hope will be crucial for global awareness of the massacre in Gaza, a text that crosses music and old narratives with the human actions needed today in the face of this terrible conflict. An invitation to listening and to reflection.
