As you enter the realm of New Japanese Cinema, we invite the audience on a cinematic journey that transcends conventional narrative boundaries. Each selected film is a unique piece, representing the richness of stories and the diversity of cinematic approaches that define this period, but always with the transcendency, cross-border nature of Japanese cinema, with a spotlight on Studio Ghibli's films that have surpassed cultural boundaries, establishing themselves as universal content. Additionally, the cycle will feature the presentation of Kiyoshi Kurosawa's first film made outside of Japan.
The period from 2000 to 2020 witnessed a remarkable evolution in Japanese cinema, both stylistically and thematically. This cycle aims to highlight the vitality and innovation present in the works of renowned Japanese filmmakers.
Similar to our approach with New Chinese Cinema, PROSA Cultural Platform seeks to offer a sober and reflective perspective. This cycle represents more than a simple film screening; it is a profound exploration of the human condition, cultural transformations, and artistic resistance amidst significant economic changes.
Following each session, we invite everyone to participate in post-debates, where we will delve into factual, psychological, and narratological analyses, providing a deeper understanding of the presented narratives.
Thank you for joining us on this unique and enriching journey. Until soon!
