FAMILY ANGST: BERGMAN ON BERGMAN
Cinema Screenings
“All happy families are the same. Every unhappy family is unhappy in its own way,” wrote Lev Tolstoy at the beginning of his novel Anna Karenina. And each one of us, in our own way, is both a product and an element of a family. The most private and structural unit - full of memories, affections, fears and conflicts. Happy or unhappy, family dynamics are an endless source of creation. As they are an endless source of stories and plots. A colossal name in cinema, Ingmar Bergman made more than 60 films, married five times and had nine children. More than enough human material to work on the nuances of the psychological and emotional complexity of family relationships through the art of cinema. In this cycle we bring you two films from a later stage in his cinematography, but both very close to the director's theatrical heritage.
