ABOUT THE
HUMAN NATURE II
Screenings

"At the core of our existence, as human beings, lies a deep and innate curiosity about our own nature. Why do we act the way we do? Why are we so instinctive in our actions and decisions? These are questions that have troubled the human mind throughout history, and it is precisely this quest for understanding human nature that has led us to create the film cycle "ON HUMAN NATURE," now in its second edition.

But this is a cycle where we not only seek this quest in the characters of these films. Also in these fearless filmmakers, who without a large production budget or funding, are not intimidated and create their message with freedom and independence. Cinema seems to us the perfect tool to write and explore the complexities of human behavior, diving into the depths of the human psyche and exploring the mysteries of our own existence. The films selected for this second edition of this cycle, "COLUMBUS" and "LAZZARO FELICE," offer a subtle and intimate look at human nature in unique and captivating ways. They lead us to question our own humanity and to better understand why we make the choices we make.

In creating this film cycle, we intend not only to entertain, but also to provoke deep reflections on our own nature. We want to encourage the audience to explore the complexities of the human condition, to delve into their own reflections on what it means to be human, and to discover the beauty and depth of communication through symbols and metaphors.

"COLUMBUS" delves into the complexity of human connection through the lens of physical and emotional constructions. Set in the city of Columbus, Indiana (US), the film follows the chance encounters between Jin and Casey, whose lives converge amidst the serene beauty of the soul and the rich history of modernist architecture. As Jin confronts his own family relationships and cultural expectations, Casey faces the ramifications of her own choices. Through the quietude of architectural structures and the depth of dialogue, "COLUMBUS" takes us on a reflective journey about identity, connection, and how places shape our lives.

In a timeless rural landscape, where poverty and exploitation intertwine with the supernatural, "LAZZARO FELICE" tells the story of Lazzaro, a young peasant whose innocence and kindness defy social conventions and the very notion of time. Directed by Alice Rohrwacher, the film is a modern fairy tale that transcends the boundaries of magical realism. As we witness Lazzaro's journey through the hardships of life and the manipulation of the powerful, we are led to question the limits of humanity and the resilience of the human spirit. In a world where economic exploitation and social inequality prevail, "LAZZARO FELICE" reminds us of the purity of the soul and the individual's ability to transcend adversities with love and compassion.

We hope that the selected films inspire meaningful dialogues and help us better understand the motivations and desires that shape our journey as human beings. Through this cycle, we invite everyone to join us in a cinematic exploration of human nature, in the hope that we may emerge more enriched and aware of our own humanity.

Come along!"
